DTM Hockenheim Preview

We have reached the final weeked of the 2007 Deutsche Tourenwagens Masters Series and the title is still up for grabs. The season finale at Hockenheim will feature a 3-way battle for the championship. Mattias Ekström is the only former DTM champ in the fight and he leads young Canadian Bruno Spengler by 2 points and young German (and Audi team mate) Martin Tomczyk by just 4 points. All three are gunning for the win.

Last round in Barcelona there was a lot of contact and both Audi's of Ekström & Tomcyzk were knocked out of the race, eventually leading to the remainder of the Audi contigent's withdrawal Spengler on the other hand was able to steer clear and finish 2nd, behind Jamie Green (the Briton's first DTM victory). Paul di Resta finished 3rd to jump Bernd Schneider for 4th place in the championship standings.

Those results have kept the Original Teile/DC Bank Mercedes team with a slim hope of over coming their Audi Sport Team Abt rivals in the teams championship chase. Trailing by 14.5 points, Spengler and Schneider need to work a one-two finish to give their team a chance for the title. Click here for the full 2007 points standings.

With 3 drivers fighting for the championship, this is a race you won't want to miss. Mix in several battles lower in the points as well as drivers looking to impress for 2008 and the action will be fast and furious. Visit www.dtm.de for real time results.
