Rally Mexico Historical Stats

Mexico joined the World Rally Championship as part of the 2004 WRC expansion. It has been run three times and all three times it was dubbed Corona Rally Mexico

2007 is the first time Mexico is not round 3 of the WRC; this year is round 4.

Firsts in Mexico:

Jussi Välimäki collected his first career WRC points finish in 2004 (7th)
Gareth Mac Hale scored his first career WRC points finish in 2006 (6th)

Recent Mexican struggles for Ford:

Since Markko Märtin & François Duval gave Ford a 1-2 finish in the inaugural event, Ford has not scored a podium finish. Their best result: 6th.

Numerology:
2004 - Markko Märtin’s 3rd WRC win, 2005 - Petter Solberg’s 12th WRC win, 2006 - Sébastien Loeb’s 21st WRC win. All wins are divisible by 3.

This bodes well for Ford because Marcus Grönholm’s next win would be his 27th career, and Mikko Hirvonen’s next triumph would give him his 3rd career win.

Did You Know?

When Gareth Mac Hale had a surprise 6th place finish last year in Mexico, it was the first time an Irishman scored a WRC point since Billy Coleman in 1985 (4th in France).
